SALT ASH BUSHFIRE DOWNGRADED TO WATCH AND ACT

Five homes have been damaged or destroyed in Salt Ash. The fire threat has been downgraded to a watch and act.

Meanwhile an emergency warning is in place for a bush fire burning in the area around Mt Tangory, approximately 15 kilometres east of Singleton.

The fire is threatening rural properties around Cranky Corner Road (North and South) and Bimbadeen Road.

The Mooreland fire to the west of Fingal Bay in Port Stephens continues to burn but has also been downgraded to a Watch and Act.

Conditions in the area have eased as firefighters continue work to bring the fire under control.

Watch and Act – Mooreland Fire (Fingal Bay area, Port Stephens)

A bush fire continues to burn to the west of Fingal Bay in the Port Stephens area.

Current Situation

Conditions in the area have eased as firefighters continue work to bring the fire west of Fingal Bay under control. The alert level for this fire has been downgraded to Watch and Act.

A southerly change is forecast for this evening. This change may push smoke and burning embers towards Shoal Bay and Nelson Bay.

An Emergency Alert telephone message has been sent to residents in the area.

Advice

Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan. If you do not have a Bush Fire Survival Plan, ensure you know what you will do if the fire threatens your property.

If you plan to leave, or you are not prepared, leave early.

Well prepared, actively defended homes can offer safety during the fire.

Emergency Warning – Tangory Mountain Fire, east of Singleton (Singleton)

An emergency warning is in place for a bush fire burning in the area around Mt Tangory, approximately 15 kilometres east of Singleton.

Current Situation

The bush fire is burning in the area of Mount Tangory, south of Glendon Brook and approximately 15 kilometres east of Singleton.

The fire is threatening rural properties around Cranky Corner Road (North and South) and Bimbadeen Road.

Advice

People in the areas of Cranky Corner Road (North and South) and Bimbadeen Road should should seek shelter if the fire impacts on their property. Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. An Emergency Alert telephone warning message has been sent to homes in these areas.

Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan. If you do not have a Bush Fire Survival Plan, ensure you know what you will do if the fire threatens your property. Leaving early is the safest option for survival.

People in the area should be alert to burning embers. Put out any spot fires which may start on your property.

Watch and Act – Browns Road Salt Ash (Port Stephens)

The Browns Road scrub fire burning in the Salt Ash area at Port Stephens has been downgraded to Watch and Act.

Current Situation

A scrub fire is burning the Tilligerry State Conservation area between Salt Ash and Tanilba Bay. There are reports of 5 properties damaged or destroyed.

A forecast southerly change this evening may push this fire in a number of directions. The fire threat remains for properties in the areas of Rookes Road, Lemon Tree Passage Road, Brownes Road, Oyster Cove Road and Marsh Road.

Due to road closures:

People in the area around Salt Ash, to the south-west of the fire, should move towards Williamtown.
Lemon Tree Passage Road is closed. People in Lemon Tree Passage and Tanilba Bay should not attempt to leave.
People east of Bobs Farm should go towards Anna Bay.

An Evacuation Centre has been established at the Community Hall, Nelson Bay Road, Williamtown.

  1. I was at the Tanilba Bay side of the fires today and stopped at the Intersection of Oyster Bay Road. I have video of people driving straight towards the fire risking their lives and that of their children in the cars. I could not believe what I was seeing. There were no police our side of the fire as at that stage the road was closed and the authorities could not get through.

  2. can you imagine these wild fires mixed with the proposed coal seam gas industry, bringing highly flammable CSG & fugitive methane emissions, pipelines trucks drill rigs & storage areas all into the equation. ‘bought to you by mining’ indeed.

  3. i couldent beleave the fires that my perant was very up set beacuse we had horse to get out of the fires that wa close to my paddock
