A report had recommended its closure, but councillors last night voted to take a closer look before deciding its fate.

  1. The RSPCA needs to embrace animal rescue groups so it can take some of the strain off them but the RSPCA wont!!!
Iit seems animals are dying unnecessarily. How can the RSPCA let this happen, if there are alternatives???

  2. Closing Kurri Pound will result in the RSPCA killing more animals. They will not allow rescue groups to release from them. I alone have rehomed over 50 kittens/cats from Kurri Pound in the last 3 years…. these animals would have been destroyed otherwise.

  3. the public need to be made aware of just how many animals die at the hand of the RSPCA…Rescue groups want these animals to go to loving homes and given another chance at a happy life…the RSPCA would rather they die if they can’t make a buck off them. So much for “all creatures great and small” !!

  4. The Kurri pound can’t be closed, the RSPCA rarely gets out to the area, so what’s going to happen to the animals then? Will they have to go to Cessnock or Maitland, that will put more burden on them, and they’ll have up the kill rate. Not a good idea. I can’t see any justification for closing it. I’m very concerned about this. The aniamls are being pushed aside for the all mighty dollar, AGAIN!!!!.

  5. i belive it would be a good move because kurri kurri pound puts down animals after a week where the rspca puts them up for adoption and finds them new homes!

so im all for the move to the rspca !
