OUTRIGGERS HEADING TO PORT MACQUARIE

Outrigger paddlers from all over the state will head to Port Macquarie this weekend, for the New South Wales Titles.

The highlight, an 18-kilometre race for single and double canoes – but the course format will depend on the day’s conditions.

“At the moment, it’s from big hill campground back to Port Macquarie, and we also have a short course which will be a 10 kilometre course in the morning, and we’re also hosting some 6-man racing on Sunday,” Race Director Wes Byrne said.

Aided by a home advantage, the Port Macquarie Maroro club is hoping to replicate its past success.

“We’ve done actually quite well, and we’ve also done quite well in the Australian National Titles, so a few of us have won some medals in our category.”
