SCHOOLIES ON THE GOLD COAST ENTERS FINAL NIGHT

As schoolies on the Gold Coast enters its final night, police remain positive about the overall public behaviour during the last week. 10 schoolies – seven male and three female – were arrested on 13 charges in the Surfers Paradise CBD overnight, with most of the charges relating to public nuisance and drug possession offences. Three schoolies were issued with liquor infringement notices. 10 non-schoolies were arrested on 12 charges, also mainly for public nuisance and drug related offences.

DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES LAID AS SCHOOLIES CONTINUES

Despite 17 schoolies being arrested overnight, Gold Coast police say they’re pleased with overall crowd behaviour in the Surfers Paradise CBD overnight. The arrests were mainly for drug-related possession offences, while fifteen schoolies were also issued with liquor infringements notices. Of those arrested, 16 were male. Seven non-schoolies were also arrested on charges relating to public nuisance and drug possession.

14-YEAR-OLDS ALLEGEDLY CAUSE DAMAGE TO GOLD COAST HIGH SCHOOL

Three teenagers will be dealt with under The Youth Justice Act after allegedly causing damage to a Gold Coast high school. Police were alerted to a group of juveniles acting suspiciously at Elanora High School, at around 4:30pm on Saturday. On arrival, they found three youths on a roof, and a plant that had been uprooted and thrown into a wall, causing damage. The 14-year-olds were taken to Palm Beach Police Station, and their parents notified.

13 SCHOOLIES ARRESTED OVERNIGHT ON THE GOLD COAST

Drug possession was the main reason for arrests in the first weekend of schoolies celebrations on the Gold Coast. 13 schoolies were arrested overnight on 16 offences, seven of which were drug possession. 11 others were issued with liquor infringement notices. Meanwhile, 10 non-schoolies were arrested on 12 charges, mostly relating to public nuisance and drug possession.

SIX ARRESTED ON FIRST NIGHT OF SCHOOLIES CELEBRATIONS

Police believe wet weather has seen schoolies celebrations on the Gold Coast slightly down for the same time as last year’s event. Official celebrations started for students last night around the Surfers Paradise precinct. Six schoolies – all male – were arrested on six offences, with the majority of offences being for drug possession. Eight schoolies were arrested at the same time last year. A further 12 non-schoolies were arrested on 24 drug-related offences.

CASH, DRUGS & WEAPONS ALLEGEDLY DISCOVERED IN GOLD COAST SEARCH

More than $50,000 in cash, along with drugs and weapons, have allegedly been discovered on the Gold Coast. Police searched the East Quay Drive unit in Biggera Waters shortly before 9am yesterday, where a number of firearms, ammunition, cocaine, steroids and 14 cannabis plants were allegedly located. A 21-year-old man has been charged with a range of offences, including two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, and four counts of possession of a dangerous drug. A 22-year-old man was also charged with four counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, three counts of possession of a dangerous drug, and one count of receiving tainted property.

MAIL CENTRE AND GROW HOUSES TARGETED BY GOLD COAST POLICE

A week-long targeted operation by Queensland police has netted cannabis and other drugs believed to have been bound for schoolies celebrations. In one instance, 13 packages containing drugs were allegedly detected in a Gold Coast mail centre, including cannabis, and performance and image enhancing drugs . Police also say they seized 91 cannabis plants and 25 kilograms of dried cannabis while executing search warrants at nine premises on the Gold Coast between Monday and Thursday this week.
