ROCK FISHERMAN RESCUED

The rapid response of emergency services played a vital hand in the rescue of a fisherman washed into the sea at Seal Rocks, north of Newcastle.

The man’s son ran to raise the alarm, leaving his father clinging to rocks and being battered by big waves, near the lighthouse.

Water police from Forster and the Westpac rescue helicopter were on the scene within half an hour.
The 58-year-old man who was visiting from Nowra, was winched out of the water and required only minor first aid treatment.
