MAN HANDS HIMSELF INTO POLICE AFTER ALLEGED COFFS HARBOUR ASSAULT

A man has been charged after an altercation on the state’s north coast yesterday.

Just before 2pm on Saturday, two men became involved in an argument outside a hotel on the Pacific Highway in Coffs Harbour.

Police allege a 24-year-old man punched a 36-year-old man, causing him to fall to the ground and become unconscious.

Police attended the scene, but the younger man had already fled.

The older man was treated paramedics before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.

He remains in a serious condition with a fractured skull.

It’s also alleged the younger man had assaulted two hotel employees.

Around 8 this morning, the 24-year-old presented at the Coffs Harbour police station.

He was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, two counts of common assault, offensive conduct, and failing to leave a licensed premises.

He will appear in court on January 30.
