LAKE MACQUARIE COUNCIL TO INSPECT BUTTERFLY CAVE ON THURSDAY

Lake Macquarie Council staff and councillors will assess West Wallsend’s Butterfly Cave on Thursday, to ensure a buffer zone to a nearby housing project is being observed.

Campaigners are still hoping the developer will extend the distance from the Aboriginal site.

    I have just seen photos of the Butterfly Caves and to me it will Not stand up to any movement, Let alone only 20mtrs away. I think it would be well and truly a lot more. I said 50mtrs but even that may not be enough.

    It is a shame these things are not inspected by people who know, what they are educated in. Not money. Every little bit of bush we decide to destroy from now on should be gone over with a fine tooth comb. So this sort of thing can be sorted out way before this sort of thing can not happen again.

    This is an absolute disgrace for history, to go down the gergler like this. It can’t go another way.

    To save it it will need to be braced up fenced off and not have the fences creep less and less like they always do.
