In the wake of the Richmond Vale fire which destroyed parts of region’s railway history, there’s been renewed calls to preserve Broadmeadow’s heritage trains.
The State Member for Newcastle says the Locomotive Railway Depot has been flagged by the government as an item that could be sold off.
“It’s more important than ever that the magnificent heritage listed Broadmeadow rail facility be preserved and we keep the trains that are there currently in Newcastle and the Hunter rather than being sent off to Sydney.”
Transport for New South Wales told NBN News it’s still reviewing the future needs and uses of the heritage asset.
