Farmers across western New South Wales could be facing a fertiliser shortage, following the recent temporary shutdown of Orica’s Kooragang Island ammonia plant.
Chemical company Incitec Pivot has advised growers that supplies of anhydrous ammonia will be drastically limited, meaning spring crops may suffer.
Orica however says it is only a small supplier of ammonia to Australian fertiliser manufacturers, and is just one of many options.
