UPDATED CRIME REPORT FOR THE NSW STATE

The mid north coast’s crime report card for the past two years is in.

Updated statistics show drug crimes increased in the region over 2015-2016.

Amphetamine possession rose by around 50 per cent in both Kempsey and Port Macquarie Hastings areas, with a small increase further south as well.

Cannabis charges jumped in the Manning- Great Lakes.

But there was good news, with a drop in car thefts – despite police working smarter.

“We have an automatic number plate recognition system which actually detects stolen vehicles, it reads number plates of every vehicle and it can actually read six number plates per second,” said Chief Inspector Christine George.

Assault and thefts dropped slightly in the Coffs-Clarence command during the same period.
