NON-DOMESTIC ASSAULTS DOWN 58%

Newcastle Police say night time, non-domestic assaults are down by 58 per cent since 2008.

There’s still an average of 40 assaults per month, compared to upwards of 100, when the problem was at its worst.

“malicious damage by the same token is down approximately 44 per cent over the last 18 months, these are really good things for the city and I think it sends a great message that the culture is changing.”

Officers put the improvement down to what they call ‘consequence policing’, licencing restrictions, and the introduction of ID scanning at pubs and clubs.
