Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery at the Hungry Jacks at Jesmond.
A balaclava-clad man wielding a knife entered the outlet just after six this morning.
He demanded money from an employee, but when the staff member called out to a fellow worker, the would-be robber ran off.
Police are looking for a man aged in his 30s, 180 centimetres tall, with a thin build.
Officers don’t believe the incident is linked to the armed robberies being investigated by Strike Force Finite.
