  1. I am pleased to hear the sinking 0f the “Adelaide” is to go ahead, at last, It will be a haven for marine life and an added safe habitat for Divers to explore. Much work has been done on this Frigate to safely prepare it for this day and much effort has been behind the movers and shakers for this historic happening to go ahead.

My son served proudly on this beautifully built ship and I would be proud to see him watching beside me on the day – but I know his Spirit will be there with us all.

God Bless all those who have Served on this Frigate and fought with the movers and shakers behind this historic occassion happening.

I hope I am able to be there on the day on behalf of my Late son to see this ship scuttled to a restful and useful finality. Bettye

  2. It’s great to see that the new government has seen beyond the self serving NIMBYs and plans to go ahead with the environmentally safe scuttling of an artificial reef.

The boon for businesses, fish, and tourists will be amazing!

  3. what if Dave you find in the future that the Noship fears were valid – that the ship breaks up like other frigates have, that the dive site no longer is an official dive site and will render no income to clean up the mess, that the sandbank it has been dumped on is compromised and that instead of a a marine sanctuary it becomes a deterrant and contamination for whales and other marine creatures – who will speak up for Avoca then and in fact once down it will be forever – not an accident of nature but a deliberate fouling of a pristine beach.

  4. @sue:

Well if we enter an alternative universe AND the impossible AND improbable happens, then maybe the NoShi$$ers can get out there and haul it up! It should be an easy job if it breaks up like they reckon… But more than likely they’ll just rant, rave and make a whole lot of noise and annoyance but actually do nothing constructive.

Of course, that isn’t going to happen because we don’t live in an alternate universe!

What I really want to know is when everything goes according to plan and Avoca booms, will the NoShi$$ers admit they were wrong and eat humble pie? Will they apologise to all of NSW for wasting tax-payer’s money because they refused to listen to all the scientific facts and evidence, wanting to hold onto the belief that the world is still flat? Probably not…

  5. I am amazed that the pro shippers do not identify with the fact that the incompetence displayed by the past state government , the department of lands and CCARP in managing the scuttling in the first instant , is the main reason for wasting tax payers money. The NSAG were surely exercising their rite as citerzens in a democratic society to question that management. It had some depth as the AAT stopped the
scuttling last year and ordered more cleaning.Lets hope it sinks on the tow to Avoca , preferably under the harbour on top of the tunnel !

  6. As a diver I have dived a lot of wreacks all off which were sunk during war. Nune were prepared for scuttling but are loaded with life. The hold up is a few that think of only them selfs. Lets not let a vocal few scuttle the area.

  7. As a diver I’ve dived a lot of wrecks, all sunk with out any preperation yet are loaded with life. Lets not let a vocal few stop progress through selfish actions.
