BENNETT ‘EMBARRASSED’ BY KNIGHTS

Wayne Bennett says he is embarrassed by the performance of the Knights over the past three years, stating it was a factor in his decision to leave the club.

The veteran coach ended months of speculation, by announcing he will leave the club at the end of the season.

He says he takes full responsibility for the club’s current position.

“While we have been faced with many challenges, the Club is heading in the right direction and I have confidence in the structures now in place,” he said.

Knights CEO says Matt Gidley says he understands Bennett’s decision.

“Wayne has made this decision because he believes it is what is best for the Club”.

The eight time premiership winner was contracted to the Knights until the end of 2015, however it’s believed off field dramas at the club have taken their toll, with Matt Gidley citing Bennett’s presence during “challenging periods”.

There’s speculation Bennett is headed back to the Dragons.
