KURRI POUND TO CLOSE

The fate of the Kurri pound has been decided.
Cessnock councillors have voted to close down the aging facility, as its animal cages no longer meet the Animal Welfare Code of Practice.

An aboriginal land claim also means council is currently unable to repair or modify the enclosures.

Council will now enter into a five-year agreement with the RSPCA, which will see all stray and unwanted animals sent to the welfare group’s Rutherford shelter.
