MAN CHARGED AFTER PUNCHING TWO POLICE OFFICERS

A man accused of punching two police officers in the Hunter Valley will face court today.

After 8:30 last night, police stopped a 38-year-old driver on Heddon Street, Kurri Kurri, and searched his Ford Laser sedan.

He allegedly resisted arrest, punching a senior constable in the head before being pepper-sprayed.

Police say he then tried to run away.

When they attempted to arrest him again, he allegedly punched a second senior female constable in the head.

The man was taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with two counts of resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, and three counts of assault police officer in execution of duty.

The Waratah man has been refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today .
