The demolition of the old Cunningham’s hardware building in Coffs Harbour is underway with work to be carried out at night.
The contractors say the after hours operation will completely contain risks to the public from any asbestos dust and should be completed within a fortnight .
The building at the corner of Gordon Street and Harbour Drive is being knocked down to make way for an extension to the Coffs Central shopping centre.
Four retail shops will replace the old hardware store at a cost of $8 million.
The project should be completed by 2016.
