MAN CHARGED WITH ALLEGED ASSAULT OF FEMALE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

A former teacher has been charged with assaulting four students, at a Coffs Harbour high school. Detectives began investigating after comlaints made by the students – all girls aged between 12 and 14. The 60-year-old man, who worked at the Joyce Street school until last year, was yesterday charged with five counts of common assault, and two of aggravated indecent assault. He was granted conditional bail, and will face Coffs Harbour Local Court in April.

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR COFFS BYPASS COMMITTEE

Nominations are now open for the Coffs Harbour bypass project community consultative committee. The creation of a committee was announced last week when the state government backflipped on its bypass plans and agreed to include tunnels in the project. Member for Coffs Harbour, Andrew Fraser, said the committee will provide advice on the project, reflecting community feedback. Applications are open until Monday the 18th February. (VISION ONLY)

TUNNELS AGAIN A DESIGN FEATURE OF COFFS HARBOUR BYPASS

More than 700 pieces of community feedback has led the New South Wales Government to change tack on the Coffs Harbour bypass, confirming tunnels will again feature as part of the 14 kilometre route. The announcement was made as Deputy Premier John Barilaro visited Coffs Harbour on Tuesday, with other significant design changes also touted, including a reduction in the height of the viaduct adjacent to Mackays Road. In addition, a locally represented committee will be set up to guide the project through to completion. Work on the long-awaited bypass is set to get underway in 2020. Dennis Driver reports.
