BODY OF MISSING UNE PROFESSOR FOUND IN ARGENTINA

The remains of an Australian academic and her sister have been found in a shallow grave in Argentina. A professor of microbiology at the University of New England, Lily Pereg had travelled to the South American nation to visit her sister. The bodies of both women were found at Pereg’s nephew’s home in Mendoza. He’s now been charged with two counts of murder.

Armidale singer-songwriter Fergus James is fast becoming a name to remember, after he was named the most played artist of the week on national youth station Triple J. It tops off a successful year for the 19-year-old… He’s toured the country with Ed Sheeran and racked up more than 4 million listens on Spotify on his debut single ‘Golden Age’. OLD COURTHOUSE COULD BE HERITAGE LISTED BY FEBRUARY

Armidale’s old courthouse could join Central Park on the Heritage List as early as February. Earlier this month, it was announced the landmark would go under the hammer. It sparked community outrage, and was soon taken off the market. If the application is successful, it’s expected the building will be sold to Armidale Regional Council to be used for community purposes. (NO AUDIO)

ARMIDALE SECONDARY COLLEGE PLANS REVEALED

As Armidale’s two public high school’s prepare to merge, the Armidale Secondary School project has reached the next stage. A contractor has been announced, and designs released. The existing central building and indoor sports complex will be refurbished, while all other buildings will be demolished, making way for 79 new learning spaces. A new way of teaching the curriculum also on the agenda. “Already we’re implementing next year at the Duval campus a middle school model where our year 7 and 8 students will have a huge reduction in the number of teachers that they’re working with on a daily basis.” A new ‘Smart Farm’ will also be built, to replace the current agricultural area.
