ASBESTOS TO BE CLEARED FROM PRIMARY SCHOOL BY END OF YEAR

All known asbestos will be cleared from buildings at Newcastle East Public School by the end of the year.

It comes after friable asbestos was found in a heritage building during renovation, over the summer holidays.

Artificial turf will also be laid on encapsulated asbestos found in the school playground.

More than $1.4-million has been spent removing the potentially toxic chemical from the school.
