CALM, COMFORTABLE WEEKEND ON THE WAY

There’s only some high level scattered cloud over eastern Australia as the west sees most of the cloud and rain. A massive high will take over, making for a long, dry, calm run. Temperatures will climb in the coming days. A few showers are set to develop on the NSW mid north coast with partly cloudy skies for most. A southerly will affect the Central Coast/Newcastle region with the slight chance of a shower also. Mild to warm and calm with predominantly fine conditions for the majority of the region.

GAV’S SURF REPORT

The little pulse in the swell is dropping fast. There isn’t going to be much left over for the weekend. Small conditions are expected. Light onshore winds for the Gold Coast and NE NSW. It’ll be offshore in Newcastle on Saturday morning with a southerly switch around midday.

GAV’S WEATHER: THE RAIN BAND WE NEEDED

The cloud band has cleared from eastern Australia tonight. It was the NW moisture feed we needed. The rain was filled with nitrogen springing everything to life almost instantly. A massive high will takeover making for a long, dry, calm run. Temperatures will re-climb in the coming days. Beautiful, clear, crisp morning on the way with plenty of sunshine. Light variable winds. A great weekend will follow.

GAV’S WEATHER: RAIN BAND SLOWLY MOVING NORTH

Cloudy over the country, as the NW moisture feeds in via the upper level jet stream conveyor. Hot and partly cloudy for northern NSW as the cloud begins to engulf the state. Rain will start to spill in across the local region overnight. Good falls will extend to the NW. The heat will be cleared from NE NSW but the region won’t receive as much rain. Rain will build across the Greater Hunter, MNC and NW overnight, as the system slowly tracks north. It will weaken so areas such as the Northern Rivers and SE QLD won’t see as much rain.

GAV’S WEATHER: RAIN ON THE WAY

Expect a hot night across the region, with storms set to develop across the Hunter and Central Coast in the morning. We’ll also see rain fall across the North West and Mid North Coast, with the far north east of the state set for another warm day tomorrow. It’s cloudy elsewhere, with good totals expected across South Australia and the Red Centre.

GAV’S WEATHER: HOT NIGHT ON THE WAY

Expect a warm night tonight, with a southerly change expected to reach the region tomorrow afternoon. It remains hot and sunny over Northern New South Wales, with the change to reach Newcastle around 2pm, only making it to the mid north coast by midnight. Across the inland it will be very hot, with isolated storms for the northern corner. Seabreezes will bring some comfort for those along the coast.

TOTAL FIRE BAN AS TEMPERATURES CONTINUE TO INCREASE

Temperatures across much of New South Wales are on the rise, with the mercury set to peak in some areas at more than 35 degrees. Newcastle’s Nobbys Head reached 30 degrees just after 10 o’clock. Further north, strong westerly winds were pushing the temperature towards 30 degrees at Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, and Ballina. A total fire ban is in place for the Greater Hunter Region. —— More than a dozen blazes are burning across the north of the state, including a fire burning at Stockrington west of Newcastle, which has so far burnt through around 15 hectares of land. It remains at advice level. ——- A watch and act warning also remains in place for an out of control bushfire at Lake Macquarie. GAV’S WEATHER: HERE COMES THE HEAT

Hot and sunny over the entire broadcast region. A large slow moving high is sliding out over the Tasman and Coral Sea. This is going to allow the hot air from Central Australia to move our way in the coming days. Some of the hottest temperatures since last summer will now spill across the region. Hot and mostly sunny with strong NW winds and gusty NE seabreezes for coastal communities.
