CYBER CRIME FEARS

Cyber crime – it’s quick, costly, and could be coming to a medical centre near you.

That’s the dire prediction from a Griffith University professor, who fears there aren’t enough graduates skilled in internet security.

Michael Blumenstein says school students need to be encouraged to study information and communications technology at uni, so personal records don’t fall into the hands of hackers.

“Data is now the currency of the world. You know, if you’ve got data in a medical practice, or in a bank, this is valuable – billions of billions of dollars.”

Last year a Miami doctors surgery was held ransom by a Russian Crime Syndicate.
