DRUNK DRIVER NARROWLY MISSES STAFF AT TAREE BOTTLE SHOP

Customers and staff came dangerously close to being hurt, when a car came careering through a Taree drivethrough bottleshop on Friday afternoon. When tested police allege its driver blew 0.256, more than five times the legal limit. The would-be customer, a 51-year-old man, has been charged with high-range drink driving. 24-YEAR-OLD WANTED ON OUTSTANDING WARRANT

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate a man, wanted in the state’s north. Harold Harrison is wanted over alleged assault, break and enter, and traffic offences. The 24-year-old is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, between 165cm and 175cm tall, with brown eyes and black hair. He’s known to frequent the Armidale and South West Rocks areas. Anyone who sees Mr Harrison, is urged to contact police.

WINDOWS SMASHED AT WOOLGOOLGA WOOLWORTHS

A man, armed with a knife and hammer, was tasered at Woolworths in Woolgoolga early this morning after he smashed up to 50 windows at the store. It’s understood police attended the store around 4am. The 40-year-old man became aggressive towards police, threatening them with the weapons, before tasers were used. He was taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus in a stable condition where he will undergo a mental health assessment. Police inquiries continue.   (VISION ONLY)

POLICE IDENTIFY BODY FOUND NEAR TAREE

The body of a man discovered in bushland north of Taree has been identified as that of 41-year-old Tyron Beauchamp. Mr Beauchamp’s body was discovered by an RFS crew on Yarratt Road at Upper Landsdowne, just after 6 o’clock on the morning of December 27. A post mortem revealed the man had been seriously assaulted, before his body was taken to the forest and set on fire. Police are now hoping to piece together the 41-year-old’s final movements, including who he’d been associating with in the weeks leading up to his death. They’re also keen to speak with anyone with dashcam vision from the area, taken between Christmas Day and December 27. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

POLICE OFFICER ENDS UP ON BONNET OF CAR

A man remains in custody after allegedly ramming an Inverell police officer with his car following a roadside drug test. Officers say after informing the driver he had tested positive and was under arrest, the 23-year-old drove off at speed collecting the officer on the bonnet. It’s alleged he continued driving before eventually stopping, long enough for the officer to get off and then he took off again. He’ll face court for a second time next week.

FIRE PERMITS SUSPENDED IN PARTS OF THE MID NORTH COAST

With high temperatures and strong winds forecast over the coming weeks, the New South Wales Rural Fire Service is suspending all fire permits in the Port Macquarie-Hastings and Manning Great Lakes regions. Temperatures are expected to soar into the high 30s and with no significant rain forecast, the suspension will remain in place until conditions improve. Permits may still be issued in the Gloucester region, at the discretion of officers. (VISION ONLY – NO AUDIO)

REPLICA FIREARMS SEIZED ON THE MID NORTH COAST

Police have seized three replica firearms on the mid-north coast, which are illegal in New South Wales. The ‘gel ball shooter,’ which is similar to a paintball gun, is classified as a prohibited firearm because it resembles a real-life military style weapon. Two replica hand-guns were also seized. Police are urging anyone who may be in possession of these fake weapons to destroy them or surrender them to police. (VISION ONLY – NO AUDIO)
