11TH HOUR LIFELINE FOR FIGS

A private transport company has offered up to $35,000 to fund safety tests on Newcastle’s controversial Laman Street Figs.

Debate over the safety of the trees is expected to culminate in council tonight and could end in an order to have the trees brought down.

A Sydney based transport business, MyFleet, which had its origins in Newcastle, says it would fund dynamic testing of the trees that should once and for all, take the uncertainty out of the debate.
