CURIOUS HORSE RESCUED FROM GOLD COAST POOL

There was a rather unusual rescue on the Gold Coast, to free a curious horse from a backyard swimming pool. Ruby, the wayward mare, wandered into the Tallebudgera pool but became a little out of her depth. It took rescue crews three hours, plenty of food and a lot of creativity to free Ruby. After all that, she was given a clean bill of health and sent back to her paddock. (VISION ONLY)

RUGBY LEAGUE PLAYER DIES AFTER COLLAPSING ON THE FIELD

The heartbroken wife of a young Gold Coast father who died after being critically injured during a NSW rugby league match yesterday has paid tribute to her husband. Grant Cook, 28, died in the Gold Coast University Hospital last night after suffering a cardiac arrest when he was tackled during a Northern Rivers Rugby League (NRRL) A-Grade preliminary final that afternoon. The father-of-two collapsed after being tackled while playing for the Murwillumbah Mustangs against the Casino Cougars. Mr Cook’s wife Colleen has paid tribute to her husband on Facebook, writing that he was “an angel watching over us”. “Life can be so cruel,” she wrote. “He has left a huge hole in my heart and I know all family, especially his parents, are hurting trying to understand this tragedy. “You died doing something you loved so passionately, and I guess …

GOLD COAST MAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGED COWARD-PUNCH ATTACK

A man has been charged after an alleged coward-punch incident on the Gold Coast early this morning. Just before 2am, a 19-year-old man from Wyong, was leaving a licensed venue in Orchid Avenue on Surfers Paradise when he was allegedly punched in the head by a man walking behind him. The victim fell to the ground and hit his head. He was taken to hospital with head injuries where he remains in a stable condition. Police have charged a 19-year-old Southport man with assault and say they don’t believe the men knew one another.
