15-YEAR-OLD ALLEGED CARJACKER BACK IN CUSTODY

A 15-year-old boy who was accidentally released from the Southport Watchhouse yesterday is back in police custody. The boy self-presented to the watchhouse with his lawyer around 11.45am today. Police are reviewing how he came to be released. The teenager had previously been charged over an attempted carjacking, that left a girl seriously injured. Police say the teen was sharing a cell at the Southport Watchhouse with another boy who was due for release, and when officers called out his name, the 15-year-old stepped forward and was accidentally allowed to leave.

ALLEGED ATTEMPTED CARJACKER ESCAPES POLICE CUSTODY

A teenager, wanted in relation to an alleged attempted carjacking on the Gold Coast, has mistakenly been released from police custody. Police say the 15-year-old was in a cell at the Southport Watchhouse, charged with attempted robbery threatening violence. He was sharing the cell with another boy who was due for release, and when police called out his name, the 15-year-old stepped forward and was accidentally allowed to leave. Officers chased after him, but he escaped. The boy is described as Caucasian in appearance, of a slim build, around 176 centimetres tall, with light brown hair and blue eyes. TEEN CHARGED OVER ALLEGED ATTEMPTED CARJACKING

A teenage boy, allegedly involved in a foiled carjacking that left a girl fighting for her life on the Gold Coast, has been charged over the incident. The boy and girl, both aged 15, secured a lift from a woman at Harbour Town Shopping Centre in Helensvale on Thursday night, claiming they were being chased by a man. The 24-year-old woman drove them to Mullawa Crescent, where the teens allegedly attempted to carjack the vehicle at knifepoint. Police say the woman refused, and as she drove away, the vehicle allegedly struck the girl, causing serious injuries. The boy fled the area on foot but was located a short time later. He has been charged with unlawful entry of a vehicle while threatening violence. A 15-year-old girl remains in hospital with life-threatening-injuries. TEEN FIGHTING FOR LIFE AFTER ATTEMPTED CARJACKING GOES WRONG

A 15-year-old girl is in hospital with life threatening injuries, after an alleged car-jacking went wrong on the Gold Coast. Police say that around 7:30pm last night, a woman, aged 24, offered two teenagers, a boy and girl, a lift from Harbour Town Shopping Centre in Helensvale. She drove them to Mullawa Crescent where the teenagers allegedly produced a knife and demanded her vehicle. The woman refused and drove away. In doing so, she allegedly struck the girl with the vehicle, causing serious injuries. The man fled on foot. The woman sustained a minor cut to her hand, but refused medical attention. A 15-year-old girl was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital with life threatening injuries.

POLICE ON THE LOOKOUT AFTER BROADBEACH ASSAULT

A 32-year-old man has been the victim of an assault on the Gold Coast early this morning. The man was sitting in a balcony section of a licensed premises at Broadbeach at around 4am, when he was approached by a man who began punching his head. The victim fell to the ground and was further assaulted before the assailant fled the scene with another man. The victim, from Molendinar, was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The offender is described as mid 20’s, 177cm tall with a tanned complexion, proportionate build, a tattoo on left arm, short black hair and was wearing white to light pink t-shirt and blue jeans.

DRIVER CRASHES CAR, REFUSES TO COOPERATE WITH POLICE

A man will face court after he allegedly crashed his vehicle into a pole while under the influence on the Gold Coast. Around 10:30pm last night, police responded to reports that a car had driven into a pole at the intersection of Johnston and Wardoo Streets in Southport. Police say the 35-year-old male driver attempted to flee the scene but was restrained by witnesses, and appeared to be heavily intoxicated. When officers arrived, the driver of the vehicle was lying on the ground and allegedly refused to cooperate. The man, from Springfield Lakes, was charged with a string of offences including disqualified driving, obstructing police, and fail to provide police with a roadside specimen of his breath.

DRIVER INVOLVED IN HIT-AND-RUN OF 8-YEAR-OLD URGED TO CONTACT POLICE

Police are appealing for the driver involved in the hit-and-run of an 8-year-old boy on the Gold Coast to come forward. The boy was crossing Benowa Road near Slayter Avenue in Benowa around 8 o’clock on Thursday morning when he was hit by an orange hatchback. Police say the vehicle failed to stop and continued travelling north. The boy was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening leg injury. The driver of the vehicle, or any witnesses, are being urged to contact police.

DREAMWORLD CEO STEPS DOWN

A change of command is underway at the Parent Company of theme Park Dreamworld. Deborah Thomas, CEO at the time of last year’s tragedy, in which four people died when a ride malfunctioned, has stepped down. Dreamworld was shut for 6 weeks … suffering heavy financial losses. Ms Thomas will be replaced by former Nine Network executive Simon Kelly.
