ELDERLY MAN AND WOMAN DIE IN GOLD COAST CAR CRASH

Two people have been killed in a major crash near the Gold Coast yesterday. Police say a Toyota sedan was travelling south along Waterford-Tamborine Road at Buccan around 10:30am, when it crossed into the oncoming lane and hit a Holden four-wheel-drive. A Toyota Rav 4 has then crashed into the four-wheel-drive. The man and woman in the sedan – both aged 81 from Stapylton – were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the four-wheel-drive and the four occupants of the Rav 4, including two children, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

GOLD COAST CYCLIST CRITICALLY INJURED

A cyclist is in hospital with critical injuries, after an accident involving a car on the Gold Coast overnight. Police say the car and bicycle crashed on the Gold Coast Highway at the intersection of fourth Avenue, just before midnight. The 46-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital in a critical condition. The driver of the car, a 55-year-old man, was not injured.

CHARGES LAID FOLLOWING ALLEGED ARSON ATTACKS

A man will appear in court, charged over alleged arson attacks on two schools on the Gold Coast. In the first instance, emergency crews responded to reports of a fire inside a classroom at a school on Oceanic Drive in Mermaid Waters last Wednesday night. Then on Friday night, crews were required to extinguish a small fire in a classroom at a Fairway Drive school at Clear Island Waters. No one was injured as a result of the fire, but the schools sustained smoke, water and fire damage. A 17-year-old man from Clear Island Waters has since been charged with two counts of arson and one count of wilful damage, among other charges relating to the arson attacks.

MAN TO FACE COURT CHARGED WITH ALLEGED MURDER ON THE GOLD COAST

A man has been charged with murder following an alleged assault on the Gold Coast late last week. Police say a 53-year-old man and a 38-year-old man became involved in an altercation at a hospital in Southport, around 8am last Friday. During the alleged altercation, the 53-year-old man suffered serious head injuries. He died in hospital yesterday. The 38-year-old man has been charged with murder and will appear in Southport Magistrates Court today. It’s believed the men were not known to each other.

SOUTHPORT MAN FACES CHILD EXPLOITATION CHARGES

A man will face court for allegedly photographing and filming children in public toilets on the Gold Coast. Police say the man followed a 15-year-old male customer into the restrooms at a Biggera Waters shopping centre yesterday, and allegedly photographed him without consent. The boy noticed the phone and advised his father, who located the man allegedly responsible and detained him until police arrived. The man is also accused of having an additional video of two children on his phone, believed to have been recorded in the toilets of a restroom at a Southport shopping centre in June. A 27-year-old Southport man was charged with a number of offences, including indecent treatment of a child under 16, and making child exploitation material.

BACKPACK OF MISSING VICTORIAN WOMAN FOUND ON GOLD COAST BEACH

UPDATE: The 40-year-old Victorian woman at the centre of a search after her back pack was located on a beach at Broadbeach earlier this morning has been found safe and well. ———————– Concerns are held for a missing woman, after her backpack was found on a Gold Coast beach yesterday. 40-year-old Gail Elizabeth Oliver has been reported missing in Victoria and concerns are held for her welfare. The backpack was found at Kurrawa Beach in Broadbeach around 6:15pm, and police were able to identify the woman through property in the bag. A search of the beach was carried out, but there was no trace of the woman. Members of the public also came forward, saying they had seen a woman matching the persons description walking off from the area. Anyone who may know the whereabouts of Ms Oliver is asked to …

ARSON POSSIBLY THE CAUSE OF TWO GOLD COAST SCHOOL FIRES

Police are treating two separate fires at schools on the Gold Coast as suspicious. Emergency services were called to a school on Oceanic Drive in Mermaid Waters just before 7:30pm on Wednesday, where they found a small fire in one of the classrooms. The fire was extinguished with only minor damage to the building. Then shortly after 9pm last night, emergency services were called to a school on Fairway Drive at Clear Island Waters, following reports of another small fire inside a classroom. There was no structural damage as the fire was extinguished quickly. Police believe that in both cases, flammable material was pushed under the classroom doors and set alight.

TWO INJURED IN GOLD COAST ATTACK

Two people suffered facial injuries and had property stolen in a violent incident on the Gold Coast overnight. Police say a group of people were talking in a car park at The Spit on Main Beach, when ten vehicles arrived just after 11pm. A man, who arrived in a utility, approached a 20-year-old man from the group and proceeded to assault him. A 20-year-old woman tried to intervene, but the man then assaulted her. The woman was also assaulted by other females who had arrived in the vehicles, and she had her car keys and mobile phone stolen during the assault. The offenders then fled the scene in their vehicles. The man and woman both sustained facial injuries and were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.
