BLACK DIAMOND HITS OUT OVER AFL PLANS FOR NEW COMP

The Black Diamond AFL has seemingly declared war on the sport’s governing body, over its plans to establish a new local league. The two parties have been attempting to work together on the move but the Black Diamond has now hit out. In a statement, the AFL has refuted those claims citing the need to integrate the currently unaligned junior and senior competitions address declining senior male participation and increase funding and support for clubs. The AFL still hopes the two parties can work together on the new league. (AUDIO IN PARTS)

McDERMOTT VICTORIOUS IN BELGIUM

Commonwealth Games high jump medallist Nicola McDermott has finished her European campaign with a third victory. The 21 year-old cleared one-metre 88, to finish equal-first in Belgium. It was her third podium in a week, following a win in Ireland and a third place at the Liege International Meeting. Next up is the IAAF Continental Cup in the Czech Republic in September.

STRONGMAN EDDIE CREATES HISTORY

Saratoga strong-man Eddie Williams created history at the weekend becoming the first man to win both the ASA and ASM National titles. There were five events at the Mount Gravatt competition in Brisbane. The highlight was a staggering 350-kilogram deadlift, setting a new personal best. The 28 year-old also carried a 300-kilogram frame 20 metres in just over 10 seconds. He’ll be back in action in Melbourne in November, and is also keen to test himself overseas against the world’s best.
