ROAD SPIKES USED TO END CENTRAL COAST POLICE PURSUIT

A 38-year-old man has been arrested, after road spikes were used to end a police pursuit on the Central Coast. Just before lunchtime on Friday it’s alleged the man stole a Toyota ute from Warabrook near Newcastle, with the car later involved in an accident on Cessnock Road. It’s alleged the car failed to stop at the accident scene and continued south along the M1. Officers later spotted the ute near Bar Point and a pursuit was initiated, with police forced to deploy road spikes. The vehicle came to a stop near the Hawkesbury River Bridge. The alleged driver, from Telarah near Maitland, was taken to Gosford Police Station and charged with a string of offences including drive contrary to prohibition order. He is due to face court later today.

ARMED ROBBERY AT UMINA BEACH BOTTLE SHOP

Police are appealing for information to find the man responsible for an armed robbery at a bottle shop in Umina Beach last night. At about 7pm, a man entered the Ocean Beach Road store with a meat cleaver and threatened an employee, before fleeing with a small sum of cash. He’s described as 5’8, a thin build, with olive skin, and was last seen wearing black clothing and white sneakers. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers. (No audio)

MAN FACES COURT OVER ARMED ROBBERY AT EAST GOSFORD

A man has been refused bail after allegedly holding up two shops in East Gosford, armed with a knife. Police say around 6.30 on Sunday evening, the 18-year-old threatened an employee and demanded cash at a liquor store on Victoria Street, but was chased off with a broom. An hour later, he allegedly jumped onto the checkout counter of an IGA on the same street and threatened a male employee with a knife, before fleeing the scene with a small sum of cash. He was arrested last night and faced court in Sydney this morning. (no audio)

RARE AND DANGEROUS JELLYFISH DISCOVERED IN LAKE MACQUARIE

A rare and dangerous jellyfish has been spotted in Lake Macquarie. The Morbakka fenneri jellyfish was discovered hiding among mangroves in Mannering Bay by two marine researchers from the Australian Museum. Lake Macquarie Council has issued a warning to the community to be on the lookout. It’s sting can cause symptoms of Irukandji syndrome, which may include nausea, vomiting, severe lower back pain, breathing difficulties, profuse sweating, severe cramps and spasms.

TWO MEN CHARGED WITH CONSPIRING TO MURDER EX-BIKIE

Two more men have been charged with conspiring to murder former bikie Ricky Ciano at his Wamberal home in 2015. Rebels bikie associates allegedly plotted to assassinate Mr Ciano, while pretending to deliver pizza. The 35-year-old survived the attack, refusing to answer his front door, but was last year found dead in the back seat of a BMW in the state’s Central Tablelands. It comes after a 25-year-old and 29-year-old man, who were both already in prison, were charged yesterday. (no audio)
