MAN ARRESTED AFTER GRAFTON SIEGE

policecarcloseupA man has been arrested following a siege on a rural property in Grafton overnight.

Officers were searching for a 26-year-old man after receiving calls from a friend who was concerned about his welfare.

Police later saw a green Ford Falcon on Old Lilypool Road, and the driver allegedly sped away.

Officers say that during the chase the 26-year-old man shot at the police car but did not make contact and continued the chase to a home on Kangaroo Creek Road.
Police say he rang them from inside the house to say the revolver had been left in the letter box.

“We’ve seized the firearm but then he’s refused to surrender to police – we were very confident there were other firearms at the address.” said Inspector Murray Gillett from Coffs-Clarence Police.

Heavily armed police then surrounded the property and the stand off ended just before 6 o’clock this morning when the man gave himself up.
