CESSNOCK CBD TO UNDERGO A MAKEOVER

Cessnock’s CBD is set to undergo a makeover, thanks to a $950,000 federal government grant.

The four year project aims to revitalise the city centre and will be carried out in four stages to improve accessibility, and open retail and business opportunities.

“Stage one of the project includes upgrades to CBD laneways, street scaping, creation of a shared zone on Charlton Street and improved park and playground facilities,” said Mayor Bob Pynsent.

The local Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the project.

“We actively pursue opportunities to drive strategy and planning to improve our town centre and commend Council on its initiative to see major components of the CBD Masterplan through to delivery,” said President Geoff Walker.

Stage one works will commence in 2016-17, with all four stages due for completion by 2019-20.
