Newcastle’s old Jolly Roger Hotel is set to come down, with council issuing a demolition order.
Council says there have been numerous complaints about the condition of the site, which has become a haven for squatters, and subject to vandalism and arson attacks.
The site’s owner had permission to build a retirement complex but now wants to turn it into a 265-unit residential development, which is yet to receive approval.
