POWDER PARCEL CLOSES BYRON BAY’S POST OFFICE
Three Byron Bay postal workers were treated by ambulance officers this morning after coming into contact with a parcel containing an unknown white substance.
The staff members suffered eye irritations after being exposed to a white powder in a mail sorting bag.
The post office was closed for several hours while fire crews cleaned the site and secured the package.
“We put the powder in a hazmat bin, sent it off for analysis, we’ve de-contaminated the site, we’ve de-contaminated three of the staff.”
All the affected workers were given the all-clear by ambulance officers and were able to return to work.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
