Group 4 rugby league will be in a stronger financial position this year, after two new major sponsors agreed to terms for the season.
Gunnedah’s Wayne Cadman Insurance and Financial Planning and Tamworth’s Super Steel, replace Wests Entertainment Group, who withdrew support after 2016’s violent grand final.
Tripling the Group’s income, competition directors intend to use the money to increase participation in the sport locally, and run a tighter ship.
“We’ve got a responsibility to the game, We’ve got a responsibility to our players but also a responsibility to our supporters, to provide a safe, family environment for them to not only play sport, but to watch sport as well.”
In another change, Group 4’s top individual awards will now be known as the ‘Man of Steel’, and ‘Lady of Steel’.
