Tamworth’s iconic King George Avenue again the subject of debate, after councillor James Treloar suggested its the only viable long-term link from the CBD to Calala.
For the road extension to be possible, heritage listed oak trees would have to be cut down.
Tamworth ratepayers would be hit with a special levy totalling $200,000 to move power lines underground.
With the community expected to argue against the move, Treloar believes something must be done to ease traffic congestion on Goonoo Goonoo Road.
