Why Maitland Mayor installed controversial warning sign at art exhibition

It’s been revealed Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold did not consult council, gallery staff or the artist before installing a disclaimer – about an exhibit challenging the town’s hitching post statue.

The mayor claims the move was necessary after a string of complaints from the community.
