Newcastle and Nobbys beaches have been closed following a shark sighting this afternoon.
A hang glider pilot saw the shark off Newcastle beach and landed on the sand to raise the alarm with lifeguards.
Nobbys was closed as a precaution, with the shark seen swimming in a northerly direction.
Lifeguards are patrolling the area on jet skis.
