Newcastle councillor Nuatali Nelmes has become the first person to announce their intention of running for the Lord Mayor’s position, vacated by Jeff McCloy.
Labor endorsed Ms Nelmes this afternoon.
“I want to refresh Newcastle and bring back faith and governance to council, openness and transparency is a major cornerstone of democracy.”
A date for the by-election is yet to be announced.
