Ironwoman Hayley Bateup caught even her coach off guard, revealing she’s trying her hand at triathlon.
But Julian Norton-Smith laughed off reports she’s dumped surf endurance events.
“She’ll definitely go on with surf lifesaving and nationals and she’s part of the Nutrigrain series next year already.”
He says her primary goal, is another Coolangatta Gold win, so anything to help achieve that, is a good thing.
“Hayley being Hayley, she’ll give 110 per cent to whatever she puts her mind to. So she’s already an exceptional runner and a great swimmer so she just has to learn the bike and a few transitions and she’s going into the more ironman – so half iron and full iron so we’ll see what happens.”
