50 NEW CHARGES AGAINST CRAIG THOMSON

Another 50 new charges will be laid against former Central Coast MP Craig Thomson over the alleged misuse of union credit cards.

The 49-year-old is accused of using the credit cards to pay for female escorts and X-rated movies while he was national secretary of the Health Services Union and a Labor MP.

Prosecutors will attempt to clarify the details of his alleged misuse.

Prosecutor Lesley Taylor SC told the Melbourne Magistrates Court that there is no new criminality against Thomson.

However, Thomson’s barrister Greg James QC said the structure of the case against his client meant it was “doomed to failure”.
