COASTAL HARVESTABLE RIGHTS CHANGE COMES INTO EFFECT

There’s good news for farmers with the State government’s changes to coastal harvestable rights coming into effect today.

Producers on the east coast can now store up to 30 per cent of rainfall run-off on their properties…That’s an increase of 20 per cent.

While visiting Taree today, Water Minister Kevin Anderson said the cap will be reviewed again.

“We’ll have a look at that and take that consultation and feedback on board, look at the capacity and the capability on how landowners are managing that… we’ll take that feedback on board and see where it lands,” Minister Anderson said.

The government has warned the water can only be used for agricultural purposes.
