Newcastle has seen some very heavy down pours overnight but the coastal shower activity is set to contract north clearing for the Hunter and Mid North Coast.
The risk of showers is only going to affect the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers in the coming days.
Inland west of the divide it has been very dry and it is only going to get drier in the short term.
The long term forecast isn’t looking much better with indications of a strong El Nino developing later in the year which traditionally means a drier than average season especially across the Summer.
