STATE GOVERMENT ASKED TO HELP IN LAMAN STREET FIG TREE DEBACLE

The state government could become involved in the Laman Street fig tree saga.
The call’s been put out after council received legal advice that it couldn’t seek a third party aborist to investigate the trees’ safety.

Please, State Government, help us fix the mess that the seven councillors have made. Let’s not lose our trees whilst we’re trying to sort this debacle out.
9 out of 12 Councillors want the Independent Assessment & so does the vast majority of Newcastle. Let common sense prevail.
If an independent assessment is not allowed to determine the health or otherwise of this beautiful avenue of trees, the Newcastle community will harbour a deep and abiding anger towards those who are destroying a much loved icon in our city. This planned destruction will remain a weeping sore that will damage what should be a strong link between local government and the citizens of Newcastle.
Please N.S.W show newcastle how the new Liberals Govern an help to get a assessment on the laman street figs.
The trees are innocent until proven guilty.
They have not been proven unsafe and if they are destroyed it will be a miscarriage of justice that Novocastrians will remember for decades. Many of us still feel the loss of the beautiful arbor that was Tyrrell St!
Listen to the incessant honking of horns by everyday passers by showing their support for the tree guardians. Look at the artworks and fluffy toys children have attached to the fences near the trees. Recall the petition against harming the trees which was the largest council had ever received (and is still growing). People in Newcastle want a transparent trial for the Laman St figs, not a ‘lynching’ that bypasses decency and common sense.
Tim Owen could win a lot of favour in this town if he helped bring about the independent assessment everyone wants.
