DISQUALIFIED DRIVER CHARGED WITH RECKLESS DRIVING

A man will face court today charged with a string of offences, after he was caught allegedly excessively speeding in the Northern Tablelands.

Just after 10am on December 12, officers stopped a black Holden Commodore on the New England Highway, near Glen Innes, for allegedly exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.

The driver – a 30-year-old man – took a roadside drug test, and allegedly returned a positive result.

The man was also disqualified from driving.

Officers searched the vehicle, where they found a substance believed to be methylamphetamine (ice), a sword, prescription medication, cash and drug paraphernalia and mobile phones.

The man was arrested and taken to Glen Innes Police Station and charged with several offences, including drug supply, being in possession of a knife and reckless driving.

He was refused bail to appear at Armidale Local Court on December 13.
