MULLUMBIMBY COMMUNITY FIGHT FOR THEIR DOCTOR

Mullumbimby residents have found an ally in their fight to keep their emergency doctor.

Locals have met with Greens MP John Kaye – who’s promising to take the issue to parliament.

Mullumbimby residents are continuing the fight to keep their on-call and on-sight overnight doctor.

Greens’ MP John Kaye has taken on the issue and will now call upon the Upper House to quash the O’Farrell Government’s proposal – which would see the emergency doctor replaced by a nurse operated tele-conferencing system.

“We want to challenge the National Party and the Liberal party in the NSW Upper House next week to stand up for local communities to vote against this proposal to support our motion to say that the Mullum district deserves 24 hour day doctor services.”

Locals met today with Greens MP John Kaye to discuss their concerns and fears on the issue.

Frank Lynch, Chairman of Save the Mullumbimby Hospital Steering Committee, is one of many passionate locals.

“The absolute rejection of the notion of doctor removal at three different meetings in an unequivical statement to the health district that the community wishes to have this situation resolved.”

There’s concern also for the hospital’s nurses – who’ll be forced to take on larger workloads.

“Well I think it’s an impart on the nurses and a bit frightening for the patients and could end very badly. I think it’s a bad decision.”
