AMBER’S PLAYING HER PART TO TAKE CLIMATE ACTION

A Taree school student is playing a key role in developing a report into extreme weather events.

Amber Kelleher of the Manning Youth Action Team is working with development organisation Save the Children.

She’s spoken with local youth, authorities and emergency services about how to improve communication, drawing on their experiences in the devastating bushfire and flood crises on the Mid North Coast.

“A lot of kids found a lot of the communication from authorities figures not using youth friendly language so that was something we really wanted to push that people need to be aware that there are young kids at home alone that are reading these messages,” Amber said.

Amber has since presented their findings to the non-profit, ahead of climate change talks in Glasgow.
