The first local total fire bans are in force from midnight for the North West including Moree Plains and Narrabri, Greater Hunter including Port Stephens and Central Coast.
Strong, hot, dry, NW winds will build ahead of the southerly’s arrival expected to reach the Greater Hunter around 4 to 5pm. (That time may vary slightly).
The southerly will keep moving north into the evening.
Friday will be much cooler for the coast, temperatures will cool by a few degrees across the NW.
Some shower activity will accompany the change with storms likely in NE NSW and SE QLD on Friday.
