MORE THAN 130 RESCUES PERORMED BY LIFESAVERS ACROSS NSW

Surf Life Saving New South Wales has praised the state’s volunteer surf lifesavers, as one of the biggest days of the year continues.

At 3.30pm, 132 rescues were recorded, and 43 emergency incidents were reported state-wide, across patrolled locations.

Illawarra, Sydney, and Central Coast beaches saw the biggest influx of people and incidents this Australia day.

More than 163,000 people visited patrolled locations by 1pm, with the number expected to more than double by the end of the day.

The organisation is urging people to stay safe in the water, ahead of this evening’s low tide.
