NEWCASTLE COUPLE CELEBRATE THEIR 60TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Family and friends gathered yesterday to celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of Kathleen and Les Searles.
Their incredible love story began when they met through mutual friends as teenagers.
Attending local dances, they quickly fancied each other and were married a short time after at age 18.
The happily married couple from Glendale met in Newcastle and have lived here their whole life.
They have raised four children and now take pride in their ten grandchildren, with more on the way.
Kathleen was a High School teacher and worked in many local schools including Newcastle and Gateshead High.
Travelling is a great passion of Mr and Mrs Searles and they say they’re fortunate to have seen so much of the world.
Unable to take an anniversary trip, they decided to have a small family lunch to celebrate the milestone.
Little did they know, their grand children had organised an entire event with friends and family.
The day was even more exciting, having received a certificate of acknowledgement from the Queen.
A personalised letter from Gladys Berejiklian was also delivered.
