MAN CHARGED WITH DANGEROUS DRIVING AFTER PASSENGER FALLS FROM MOVING CAR

A man has been charged with dangerous driving and another seriously injured after an incident in Newcastle last week.

On Tuesday night, December 22, three men got into a BMW sedan at Mayfield before the 18-year-old driver and a 20-year-old passenger got into an argument.

The older man left the vehicle and went inside an home.

The BMW left the scene and returned a short time later, where police allege the 20-year-old climbed onto the bonnet before the vehicle turned onto Valencia Street and fell on the road.

The 18-year-old allegedly didn’t stop to render assistance.

The 20-year-old was assisted by passers by and taken to John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Police arrested the 18-year-old at Cessnock Police Station and charged with four offences including dangerous and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm.

The Kearsley man was granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 25 February.
