MATT KING TO RETIRE FROM NRL

MattKingFormer Casino Cougars player and State of Origin player Matt King has announced he’ll retire at the end of this NRL season.

King has been sidelined with injury for most of this season, playing only three games for the second-place Rabbitohs.

The 33-year-old started with the Casino Cougars under 7s, and made his first grade debut for Melbourne.

He played in two grand finals for the Storm in 2006 and 2007. The club won in 2007 but the title was later stripped from the club over the salary cap scandal.

He also helped NSW to a State of Origin win in 2005.

“I would like to thank every team mate I’ve ever played with, right back to the under 7s at the Casino Cougars.” said King. “I will look forward to the next chapter in my life once this season is over, and hopefully I can maintain a connection with the sport I love in Rugby league, and the club I’ve grown to love over the past two years in South Sydney.”
